Folding@home is a program that will use your computer when it´s idle to help people.
This way, every computer in the world running this program will band together to make one of the largest supercomputers in the world. This supercomputer will be used to simulate problems millions of times more challenging than previously achieved.
The whole study takes place in the field of protein folding, a critical biological process that in many ways remains a mystery. When proteins do not fold correctly they can be the cause of many well known diseases, such as Alzheimer's, Mad Cow, Huntington's, Parkinson's disease, and cancers.
Once you install the program, you can choose if you want to be mentioned in the statistics page or not, start or join a work team and set a password for your user.
You can also configure your connection, setting the program to ask before using the network, set a proxy server and allow work assignments greater than 10 Mb.
In the Advanced section you will be able to set the Scientific Scope, the CPU Usage Percent and other parameters.
